Second day was lucky for draughts player from Mali Mamutu Mariko. He won his opponent from Cameroon Mbongo. By the way it was the fastest victory in the second round. Mamutu commented his game as follows:
- During the first day I was very tired and lost the game to Artem Ivanov from Ukraine. But the second day was lucky for me, I had a rest and won the game.
Mamutu Mariko was qualified for World Draughts Championship on the basis of the results of the Championship of Africa in 2012 where he took the 4th place. Mamutu Mariko is 22 years old. Draughts is a hobby for him. Mamutu studies in the University of Mali and learns foreign languages. Among the present day draughts players he especially marks Alexander Georgiev, Alexey Chizhov and Rul Bumstra.

In the group named after Andris Andreiko were the following results: Yuriy Anikeev won Yuriy Nosov and Alexander Getmansky won Oskar Budis from Poland. In the game between the titans of the draughts sport Alexander Georgiev and Alexander Balyakin draw with plus was got by the world champion. As it was noted by the commentators of Draughts Championship «this result could be very important» (Alexander Presman), «taking into account that all points (including pluses) from semi-finals are counted in the final – two and three times important» (Alexander Moiseev).
In the group named after Baba Sy four out of five games were resultative – very rare event during the competition of such a high level. Two points were gotten by: Nikolas Derival (USA), Artem Ivanov (Ukraine), Dul Erdenebileg (Mongolia) and Alexander Schwarzman. Very unexpectedly champion of Asia Dul Erdenebileg won Andrey Tolchikov (Belarus). Muscovite Schwarzman using specific maneuver won the citizen of Riga Golubeva. Famous Harm Wiersma working on this championship as a commentator analyzed their game. And right after the game Schwarzman and Golubeva together with Harry Otten, Harm Wiersma, Allan Silva and other draughts players continued analyzing the game.

Vitaly Shtumpf from Germany made a mistake and Rul Bumstra from Holland one of the main pretendants to the victory in the championship used his chance and won. And finally the main sensation of the 1st round – loss of one of the main favorites of the championship - of the citizen of Ufa Aynur Shaibakov. Victory over Ainur Shaibakov was held by Adonis Ano (Cote D’Ivoire). In classic position he executed attack on the left wing, performed beautiful maneuver and broke through by sacrificing two pieces.

Harry Otten: Bashkortostan is the leader of draughts players’ qualification!
- Created on Monday, 03 June 2013 12:08
World Draughts Championship continued in Ufa. Today will be held the 2nd round. Before the tournament Harry Otten the President of the World Draughts Federation expressed his opinion on the organization of the championship and qualification of the sportsmen.
- What do you think about the organization level of the championship?
Competition is organized on the high level. I like the place chosen for competition. It is very quiet and comfort place with beautiful nature. Such atmosphere helps players to set for the game.
- Tell us about the championship and qualification of the players?
As I have already noticed 40 sportsmen from 24 countries participated in the Championship. Such a large number of participants is a great achievement. I’m very pleased that 6 best draughts players from African countries also came to participate in this Championship. By the way this sport is very quickly develops in African countries but Bashkortostan is considered to be one of the leaders for the draughts players’ qualification. The rising Bashkir sportsmen are Aynur Shaibakov and Aygul Idrisova.
- What is your opinion about our republic?
Bashkortostan has beautiful nature, attractive women, hospitable people and a lot of snow in winter. By the way I visit Bashkortostan quite often and was in Ufa this winter and unfortunately I felt and had a broken bone. Fortunately local doctors executed successful operation for which I express gratitude to the doctors of the city of Ufa. My daughter is going to get married soon and I’m even planning to dance on her wending.
- What are you plans for the future?
Next year Bashkortostan will host a significant event – World mind games championship. Residents of the republic will be able to follow draughts, chess, bridge and Go competitions.
Aynur Shaibakov: My essential opponent is myself

Aynur Shaibakov is young but very talented draughts player and an international master. On the eve of the championship I had a conversation with him.
- Last year I took part in the European Championship in the Netherlands, subject to the results of which I was qualified for this Draughts World Championship. Being only 20 years old I am one of the youngest players. My essential opponent is me myself. I think that winner of the championship will be either Alexander Georgiev, or Rule Bumstra. He is a genius and very talented person. As you can see many participants of the championship are very young from 20 to 25 years old. That had never happened before. This is a new stage in draughts sport, - added Aynur.
Concerning his attitude Aynur said: “At the moment, I’m trying to catch a wave of calmness, to find myself and my game”.
Today Aynur was out of luck. He lost to his opponent Ano Adonis from Cote d'Ivoire. May be in the next round Aynur will be more successful. It will take place tomorrow, June 3, at the sanatorium “Zelenaya Roscha”. It starts at 10.00 a.m.
